The TA program

36 hours maximum. TA's commit themselves to at least 18 hours.

One day per week set aside for TA's to get together, other days are for TA duties, i.e.

  • 12 hours for TA studies
  • 24 hours for TA duties

TA studies

  1. Seminars with invited guests on various light topics.
    The idea is to get the right speakers to interact with the students on the IDEAS of Viet - this goes beyond the language lessons.
  2. TA's will form self-study class and help develop new teaching methods. Detail to be announced
  3. TA Project, to be announced
  4. Training class regarding skills in helping students study at the VYEA Summer School.
    This needs to be limited to reflect TA's language skill.

TA duties

  1. Proctor the Midterm and Final exams and help with in-class self grading (1 hour each); These proctor exercises are the same idea as training for teaching class. The proctoring requires little preparation and fit the TA's limited language skill but superior skills in taking tests.
  2. Midterm and Final exam grading in the second hour after the tests, entering the grades into a grade sheet (1 hour each). A teacher will gather these grade sheets, check and enter them into spreadsheet for the results to be available the next school day.
  3. Teaching Assistant duties - helping students study. 14 hours
  4. TA Graduation performance day (6 hours, towards the end)

TA Service Credits

    Each TA will be given a VYEA certificate of volunteers for the hours participating in the program.

TA Requirements

  1. TA's commit to be at least 18 hours (half of the class sessions of a Summer School).
  2. TA's behave in an exemplary fashion.
